SHAPES AND SIZES (square weaving)

In square weaving, the basket size options are somewhat limited and depend on the width of the bags used. However, there are a wide variety of possibilities and this page presents a few possible sizes and shapes of coffee bag baskets. There is a picture of each basket model showing the parts needed for the basket. The corners of the basket (cross + circle) and the top edge of the basket (white line) are also marked on the pictures. For each model, you can also see the size of the basket (height x width x depth) if it is woven from coffee bags about 15 cm wide.

In these example layouts, the squares, triangles, and corners are woven from 6,8 cm wide strips of the silver-colored interiors of Presidentti coffee packs. Three pieces of strips of this width can be cut from most of the Finnish coffee bags if the bag is intact. There are 12 strips in one square (6×6 square), which means four coffee bags. There are 9 strips in the corner piece, so three coffee packages are enough. The triangle, on the other hand, contains half of the strips of a square, or 6 pieces, for which two coffee bags are enough. By counting from the picture or reading below the picture, you can determine the number of strips and coffee packages required for each basket size. For example, three triangles, two corner pieces and a square (3×6 + 2×9 + 1×12 = 48) strip for which you need a (3×2 + 2×3 + 1×4 = 16) coffee package. Examples of some of the sizes and shapes can also be found on the blog. In the blog examples, only one strip / coffee bag has often been used to create a pattern, so the need for coffee bags is the same as the number of strips on those designs.
